Fun with Fido! Four Things to do With Your Dog in Fairfield
By Jordan Whitney | May 27, 2021
My dog Luna’s had a ruff time being cooped up inside all winter and is excited to get out and enjoy some nicer weather. Here’s what we’ve been up to!
Get Lost in the Trails
After a long winter, we’ve been loving taking in all the new life and getting some exercise on the trails. My personal favorite for taking Luna for walks are the trails at Whitham Woods. It was great to take a break from the cornfields and be totally immersed in the woods. You can even search for morels in the early Spring while your pup sniffs around.
Beyond Whitham Woods, Fairfield offers nearly 33 miles of trails between Jefferson County Park, the Loop Trail, Cedar View Trail, Lamson Woods, Pleasant Lake, and more!
Go Camping
One of my favorite things to do with Luna is go camping. She loves getting to be outside all day and stay active on the trails. Jefferson County Park offers 24 campsites, plus two cabins if you’re not feeling like pitching a tent.
Picnic in the Park
Get some takeout from your favorite local restaurant and take it to your favorite park! We got a cheese plate to-go from Somm Wines and found a shady place in Chautauqua Park. It was a great way to wind down after playing fetch.
Meet Furry Friends at the Dog Park
Admit it, watching your dog make friends and have play dates is paws-itively the most adorable thing ever. Luna and her best buddy Woody love chasing each other around and getting some of that energy out! Fairfield’s Dog Park is a great way to let your dog run freely off-leash if you don’t have a fenced in backyard.
