Father’s Day Activities your Dad will Love

By Visit Fairfield | June 16, 2023

This Father's Day, why not take your dad out for a day of fun and reconnecting with friends, family, and nature? There's no better way to celebrate Father's Day than by spending some quality time together. If you're stuck for ideas, here's a suggested day of activities that are sure to put a smile on your dad's face.

Keeping it Reel

There's nothing quite like the peace and quiet of a day spent fishing. Whether you're alone with your thoughts or enjoying the company of friends and family, time spent fishing can be truly therapeutic. Novice and expert fishermen will enjoy Pleasant Lake, a popular, easy access fishing spot. Jefferson County Park maintains 4 lakes that are stocked with Largemouth Bass and Bluegill. Be sure to take the kids along to teach them patience. Get your fishing license online.

The Way to his Heart

Let's talk food. Let's be real, your dad is gonna get hungry at some point, so why not hit up one of Fairfield's awesome restaurants? For a bomb brunch, you've gotta check out the BakeHouse or the Asian Pho Bistro. Trust us, your taste buds will thank you. Get ready to enjoy a Sunday funday filled with good eats and good vibes!

Make a Splash

Want an extra bond with nature? Kayaking or canoeing is the perfect activity for a fun and active way to spend Father’s Day. There’s nothing quite like paddling through scenic waterways and taking in the fresh air. The Cedar Creek Water Trail is one of the most enjoyable waterways in the area to relax and connect with nature. Put your canoe or kayak into Cedar Creek at the Turkey Run Wildlife Area and take out at Round Prairie Park, about 6 miles downstream. Best of all, it’s an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Download this map to the water trail.

Pedal Power

There's something special about exploring nature on two wheels. With 16 miles of trails, there are lots of bikeways to travel in Fairfield. But we recommended a Father's Day bike ride through the Neff Wetlands. With easy access and adjacent to Lamson Woods, reconnecting with the sights and sounds of nature is easy along this section of the trail. You'll want to bring along some binoculars because this area is also home to over 100 species of birds. For a more challenging ride, pick up some suggested routes at The Ride bike shop.

Fits him to a Tee

What better way to show your dad how much you care than by gifting him a round of golf for Father's Day? He's sure to appreciate the chance to play at the oldest club west of the Mississippi, the Fairfield Golf & Country Club, and you'll create lasting memories that you can both cherish for years to come. The course is well-maintained and offers a variety of challenging holes. In addition, the club house is a great place to relax after the round and enjoy some food and drink.

No matter what your dad enjoys, you can use your creativity to design a Father's Day that he'll always remember. Whatever you choose to do, spending quality time with your dad this Father's Day is one thing he'll appreciate more than anything.

Father's Day, Holiday
