If you're an art lover planning a trip to Fairfield, Iowa this September, you're in luck! There are three major art exhibits happening in the city this month, featuring works by some of the world's most acclaimed artists. Here's a closer look at what you can expect to see.

Modern Japanese Prints at ICON Gallery

If you're interested in seeing modern Japanese prints, the ICON Gallery is the place to be this September. The gallery is showcasing 40 artists and 100 works, mostly from the 1950s to the present. The work in this exhibition is as diverse and colorful as the prints themselves. Ranging from woodblock printings to mezzotints, stencils, or silkscreens- all with their own unique style; it's hard not to find something that appeals aesthetically to every viewer at least once during your visit!

This is a rare opportunity to see such a large collection of modern Japanese prints in one place, so don't miss it! This show runs until Oct 22.

Permanent Collection Show at Fairfield Art Association

The Fairfield Art Association will be displaying its permanent collection this September and If you're looking for a truly one-of-a-kind art experience, this is it.

The exhibit consists of one of the most outstanding art exhibits in the state of Iowa, as it features four works by printmaker Mauricio Lasansky, as well as numerous other gifted artists. Lasansky has been dubbed the nation’s most influential printmaker by Time Magazine.

The wide variety of work that Lasansky produced is enough to make any art lover's heart skip a beat. His imaginative use of drypoint, intaglio, and multiple plates were combined with richly worked portraits or figurative abstractions for scenes depicting public figures, farmers, and historic events such as those from the Holocaust.

The FAA is also showing 5 other Iowa artists' works from its permanent collection, including “painterly” artist Anne Hovey, who had an excellent eye for the visual uniqueness of nature, Arthur Benoit, a gifted artist whose favorite subject matter was Iowa landscapes, Ray Frederick, a prolific artist well-known for his textured acrylics, and painter M. J. Kitzman, known for his thick oil and painting knife creations of human struggle and torment. Lastly is a smaller work by Stan Hess who was a professor of art at Drake University from 1951-85 recognized for his dry, graphic surreal style.
