History in a Cloth Bag

Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 2 PM – 3 PM

From the mid-1800’s to the Depression, when recycling was a necessity, women turned 100-pound feed sacks and flour sacks into towels, underwear, quilts and clothing! When companies realized that farm wives had started shopping at the feed stores so they could pick out the best sack patterns, those companies started getting creative. Come join historian Michael Zahs, see his collection of items from a time unknown by many, and learn how cloth bags changed history! We are changing the venue and will be moving this event to SHELTER #1 at JEFFERSON COUNTY PARK. Jefferson County Park is located southwest of Fairfield. This outdoor venue gives us more opportunity for social distancing while still enjoying an excellent program. Participants should consider bringing along their lawn chairs. The Carnegie Historical Museum thanks Jefferson County Conservation for co-sponsoring this event.
