Fairfield First Fridays Celebrates the Holiday Season

Come out and celebrate the Holiday Season with Fairfield First Fridays, on December 6th, 2019 from 6 to 9:00 pm.
There will be carriage rides around the square, Fairfield High School Vox Choir will be caroling, and various locations will have live holiday music and art. Don’t forget to bring the kids to see Santa, he will be in his new house that evening!

Friday night also is the first day of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Shop and Be Merry event! Shops will be open late on Friday night and will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday. A few of the participating shops are: Somm Wines, Adela’s, Stuff a Bear & More, Vogue on Court, Cindy’s Art Beat, Zax Jewelry, Flirt, Revelations and more!

Come see the square decorated for the holidays, stroll around, get some holiday shopping taken care of and enjoy the beauty of the holiday season in Fairfield. A few of the participating locations are listed below:

Americus Gallery-100 W. Burlington Ave. Americus Gallery will be showing Christopher Kufner’s original oil paintings, featuring Italian/French Landscapes, Figurative works and Large Format Photography on archival paper of the Tuscan Countryside. Also, showing original oil paintings by Kim Kufner, New Original watercolor and ink paintings by Genevra Bell, Art Glass Vases by David Lotton and diochroic glass jewelry by Pedro Lujano. At Home Store- 52 N. Main St. Celebrating our Holiday Open House and making Heli-Claire’s Cranberry Tangerine Pie. Stop by for how-to’s and pick up the recipe for your Holiday baking! Hours 9:00 am – 9:00 pm , Cooking Demonstration 6:30-8:00 pm

Carnegie Historical Museum- 114 S. Court St. Come view the Zuni effigy pots that have been hidden in storage for over 50 years! Originally collected during a Smithsonian affiliated scientific expedition in the late 1800’s. You’ll find this display on the 3rd floor.

Fairfield Art Association- (inside the Arts and Convention Center) Portrait Demonstration open to the public on Friday, December 6, from 6-9 PM in the Main Gallery at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. Local artist Kesryth, specializes in oil painting with a focus on the figure and portraits. The FAA is also hosting Kesryth’s first solo exhibit “Pillars of the Community” in the Hallway Gallery at the FACC. This show features eight portraits of community members of Fairfield, including: Bill Teeple, Werner Elmker, Ed Malloy, Dr. John Hagelin, Betsy Howland, Sarah Cochran, Jewel McDonald and Suzan Kessel.

Fellowship of the Holy Spirit- 51 N. Court St. east side of Fairfield’s square: Vedic Deities and Our Lady of Guadalupe in bas-relief by Alexandra Stimson. Learn about them, take one home. Also, Carol Negro’s “Everybody Sings” 7pm. children’s choir; 8pm the adult choir performs uncommon, beautiful Christmas Carols, plus a sing-along with everyone’s old favorites.

First United Methodist Church- 201 N. Court St. hosting the Northside Stripper’s Annual Quilt Show from 11:00 A.M. through 8:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church. At 6:30 P.M., they will award Honor Quilts to veterans. Also, there will be a Tenderloin meal in the church basement from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.,

Henderson’s/Cindy’s Art Beat-53 W. Broadway Ave. The Potpourri Show” – a group exhibit – opens at Henderson’s Gallery/Cindy’s ArtBeat. Paintings in a variety of media by Southeast Iowa artists will highlight the diversity of subjects and styles. Barry Ross will present a new sculpture titled “Windsong.” Wendog Fashions introduces many new colors of ice-dyed clothes, tote bags, baby clothes and socks. Bill Hurlin will display new inventory of “Ancient Times” necklaces made from African, Venetian mosaic, Roman glass beads, Mali quartz, and much more. Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7, Cindy’s Art Supply store will have a sale of art materials, with discounts from 10%-30%. Additionally, on Friday, December 6 – Cindy’s ArtBeat will host a “Create Your Own Holiday Cards” open class. For a $5 fee, participants receive 5 multi-media cards with envelopes. Pens, markers, colored pencils, collage papers, glue and many other supplies will be provided for use on-site. Open from 2:00p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

ICON Gallery- 58 N. Main St. ICON Main Gallery: “Golden Hour Trout” an exhibit by Duncan & Carla Brown. The exhibit shows the huge variety of colors and textures in cast iron when photographed during Golden Hour. They are macro photographs of a detail of a trout on a cast-iron street grating in Chicago. “Flowers” An exhibit of monochrome flower paintings by Fairfield artist Irene Murphy. 25 paintings created in 2017 and 2018 in a range of blacks, grays, and whites. Hudson Collection Gallery on ICON Mezzanine: 31 paintings from the Hudson collection exhibited in the 2013 Venice Biennale.

SOMM Wines- S. Main St. will be open from 5-9 pm for First Friday’s and pouring another fabulous wine tasting! We will focus on fun wine for the holidays called Santa’s Selections

Stuff a Bear and More – 53 N. Court St.- open until 9pm and will have a live window display of a gingerbread house being decorated. You can also come in and write your letter to Santa and place it in our Special Mailbox to the North Pole.

Thymely Solutions- 104 N. Court St. Open Late! Will have living window display! Stop in to see the great gift items, and health items they have to offer!!
