“Celebration of Art and Exhibiting Artists” Party

Fairfield Arts & Convention Center

The Fairfield Art Association announces its annual “Celebration of Art and Exhibiting Artists” Party & Event on Sunday February 23 from 2 -4 PM in the Main Gallery and Cambridge Room at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. This event is for members, guests and anyone interested in learning more about local art, its artists and what makes a painting successful.

The FAA invited artists to submit 16” X 16” canvases in any medium for its 54th annual Membership show, which has been hanging in the Main Gallery. Burlington Iowa artist and educator, John Bybee, was selected to judge the exhibit and has chosen four “Outstanding Art Works” that will be announced at 3 PM with artists receiving cash awards.

A new component in this year’s Membership Art Show is that up to 25 entries, also selected by judge John Bybee, will be honored in a “Traveling Exhibit” representing Fairfield and the surrounding areas talented artists. This exhibit will travel for 2 years around the state, which includes galleries and institutions in locations such as Muscatine, Washington, Waukee, Burlington, Ottumwa, Urbandale, Albia, Des Moines, and a couple yet to be booked. The exhibit will start on the road in March when the local display comes down.

Sunday afternoon will include an educational critique of each art piece. “This is a favorite portion of the event where a person can learn a lot about painting or creating an artwork, what makes a piece very successful, or maybe a tiny change that would make a world of difference,” says Suzan Kessel, FAA Volunteer Director.

Artists participating in the Main Gallery exhibit include Deb Baughman, Cindy Ballou, Elaine Duncan, Carlene Atwater, Ann Bosold, Care Connet, Deb DeArmon, Jim DeArmon, Alex DeArmon, Deb Finney, Bonnie Hendricks, Brett Hendricks, Annie Guldberg, Suzan Bates Kessel, Jessica Kirby, Cathryn Layer, Hans Olson, John Schirmer, Jane Shank, Irene Murphy, John Preston, Mark Shafer, Cynthia Sterling, Mia Story, Kathleen Tachet, Wyndi Rutledge, Laura Weinberg, Ron Weinberg, Kella Tschopp, Trish Rocca, Ann Wiegel, Pamela Lander, Annette Scieszinski, and JoAnne Worley.

During the event there will be a variety of delicious desserts to enjoy, beverages and fellow artists to get to know. The FAA Downtown Summer Art Installation will be announced with information/guidelines available and entry forms to participate. The FAA was formed in 1966 with the mission of “fostering art in Fairfield and the surrounding area”. Anyone can join the FAA which provides weekly art classes, scholarships, garden tours, public art pieces, art camp, exhibits, events and an artists’ sales gallery in the FACC.
