Benefit Concert for Fairfield Muse
Love Music? Play Your Part!
Fairfield Muse Benefit Concert Friday!
This Friday, May 24th at 8pm an all star cast of over 20 local musicians will be raising money for Fairfield Muse. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, but donations beyond that are welcome. They are confident that they can count on the generosity of those who value this unique cultural hub.
It was always Café Paradiso owner, Steve Giacomini’s vision to provide a venue for the type of vibrant social interchange he experienced in the cafes of Berkley in the ‘60s. On the opposite coast, Tim Britton grew up at the knees of folk music icons at the festivals and coffeehouses his parents founded in the Philadelphia area, eventually becoming something of an icon himself in Irish music circles. Their fated meeting was bound to bear fruit. For 17 years, they’ve been donating their resources to a steady stream of local and internationally acclaimed musicians, contributing to making Fairfield an attractive alternative to urban centers. They have established a reputation as one of the finest listening rooms in the country, despite turnouts that are higher on quality than quantity. In addition to weekly world-class concerts, the Wednesday night open mic has provided a unique forum for community sharing.
A labor of love, the café has never been in the position to carry the costs of these events, which consistently lose money for them, while the artists generously accept far less than they deserve. After years of consideration, they have formed Fairfield Muse, a non-profit responsible for sustainably bringing superlative talent at affordable prices to our dear community. An annual budget of $50,000 is required to pay for the infrastructure. Once covered, additional funds will go to create a website where videos of the concerts will be marketed. And finally, they plan to offer much needed career management and co-funding of recordings for local musicians. Tax deductible donations can be made to “Fairfield Muse” and dropped off or mailed to Café Paradiso, 101 N. Main St., Fairfield, IA 52556. Donations can also be made at www.fairfieldmuse.org where monthly auto-pay is available. Donors will be listed on the website unless otherwise requested.
