Southeast Iowa Farm Show
A Place to Grow – the Evolution of Farming in Jefferson County, Iowa is the third film in the award-winning Fairfield History Series. It tells the stories of generations of families who risked everything to make their home in Iowa and brings to life the legacy they have left for today’s new generation of farmers.
A Place to Grow also explores Native American farming practices and the women seed keepers who have kept that knowledge alive. Hear from people who worked the soil in this small Southeast Iowa community before electricity or tractors. Explore the evolution of small family farms, the impact of modern science on large agricultural operations as well as organic and sustainable farming practices that have taken root here.
A Place to Grow reveals three driving forces each local farmer shares: family connectivity, traditional values and a burning desire to keep their community strong for future generations.
Within this beautiful film is a revelation about the Iowa soil. Rich, dark, unctuous and alive, Iowa soil has long been the envy of agriculturalists worldwide – and the need for its stewardship by those who have reaped its benefits.
